GILROY – A 36-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night after he led Gilroy police officers on a high-speed pursuit and fired a gun at them, authorities said.

The chase started at about 9 p.m. when officers tried to stop the man, identified by police as Joshua Munoz, at Luchessa Avenue and Monterey Road, the Gilroy Police Department said in a news release.

Police said Munoz had warrants for outstanding felony and misdemeanor charges including possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, child endangerment, brandishing a weapon, burglary and violating probation.

Officers pursued Munoz onto southbound Highway 101, where he allegedly held a pistol out of the driver side window and fired a round at the officers, police said. No injuries were reported.

The California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit when it reached Monterey County.

Munoz lost control of his vehicle and crashed at Highway 101 and Laurel Drive in Salinas. Police said Munoz tried to run from the vehicle, but he was captured by officers.

A handgun and a rifle were recovered at the scene, police said.

Police said Munoz was booked into Santa Clara County jail on charges including attempted murder of a police officer, felony evasion, felon in possession of a firearm, resisting arrest and the warrants.
