A frustrated Cowboys coach Todd Payten has blasted his team for their immaturity after their 46-18 capitulation to the Rabbitohs, despite leading 12-2 early.
The Cowboys have now lost four games in a row and are in danger of losing touch with the top eight and Payten was annoyed that the same players seem to be repeat offenders.
“It was very similar to the last couple of games around putting ourselves under pressure,” Payten said.

“Obviously we made a mistake there at the 25-minute mark with a poor pass into a drop ball and then compound that by not defending our line.
“Yeah we are just an immature team at the moment.
“We are just not willing to pay the price in the tough parts of the game for long enough.”
Payten was asked if he was frustrated that a knock-on can unravel the side and everyone drops their heads and can’t recover.
“Yeah I’m very frustrated,” Payten said.

“There is different parts to that frustration. It seems to be the same people consistently over what 15 to 16 rounds.
We don’t reconnect and get together as a team. We sort of just disintegrate and don’t talk and yeah it’s not good enough.”
Payten admitted that there is a lack of senior players in the side and conceded his young players need to have more support around them in key positions.

“Yeah it would help with some more experience absolutely,” Payten said.
“We have got a few older guys and they are talking and leading. I thought Jason Taumalolo and Macca were pretty strong today.
“But they need some assistance by some key players around them and some more experienced guys.”
