Partey, Martinelli, Gabriel, Nelson: Latest Arsenal injury news and return dates ahead of Palace

It is matchday for Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners take on Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night, with the opportunity to move to within four points of rivals Tottenham and to within six points of the top four.

Arsenal have won their last four games in all competitions, three in the Premier Lwague and one in the FA Cup and go into the match with the Eagles in high spirits.

And their injury list is decreasing too, with a number of players previously out injured in contention to play against Roy Hodgson’s men.

Here we take a look at the latest news.

Gabriel Martinelli

Martinelli was forced out of the Arsenal lineup ahead of the FA Cup tie with Newcastle with Arteta fearing the worst.

He said: “He was in a lot of pain and we’re going to have to see how he is. He was in pain so I imagine we’re not going to have good news with him.”

However, a scan on Monday revealed that there was no major damage and the Brazilian can be expected to return to action shortly. The Palace game may come too soon for the forward, but an appearance against Newcastle on Monday is not out of the question.

The Brazilian was pictured in training with his team-mates on Wednesday so is not far away from a comeback.

Gabriel Magalhaes

On Gabriel, Arteta revealed he had missed a few weeks after testing positive for coronavirus, but that following his recovery from this he was expected back in training with the squad.

And the centre-back was in training with the first team on Wednesday, much like Martinelli, suggesting he will be in the squad for the game against Palace.

Arteta said: “He is better now, we expect him to be training with us in a couple of days and we will make an assessment whether we can have him or not on Thursday.”

Thomas Partey

Summer signing Partey has been absent since trudging off in the North London Derby defeat to Tottenham.

But, he is back in full training with the first team and ready to return to action.

The Ghanaian was another spotted in training pictures on Wednesday, putting in the hard graft ahead of the game against Palace.

Manager Arteta had said Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Newcastle may have been too soon, which was proved right, but that the midfielder may return against Palace.

Elsewhere Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock and Willian were all substituted during the second half of the FA Cup clash on Saturday, but none are thought to be injury related.
