NRL LIVE: Panthers cop Cleary blow ahead of blockbuster clash with reshuffled Storm

The two best teams over the last couple of years go head to head in the match of the season so far when the Panthers and Storm face-off on Saturday night.

Star Storm duo Ryan Papenhuyzen and Jahrome Hughes may have been ruled out of the clash, but the Panthers know now to take this juggernaut club lightly.

Injuries to Papenhuyzen and Hughes have forced coach Craig Bellamy to make big changes to his spine.

Nick Meaney was originally named at fullback, but new recruit Tyran Wishart will instead fill in for Papenhuyzen, while Cooper Johns slots in at halfback for his first game of the season.

Reimis Smith is also out due to a pectoral injury he suffered last week with development player Marion Seve getting an opportunity in the centres.

The Panthers haven’t got a clean bill of health either. Coach Ivan Cleary has not made the trip to Magic Round after complications with the knee infection that also prevented him from attending last week’s game.

While Cleary watched on from home last week the Panthers suffered their first loss of the season in a thrilling 22-20 upset to the Eels.

But in a boost, workhorse forward Scott Sorensen returns from an illness.

Assistant coaches Cameron Ciraldo and Andrew Webster will lead the side in Cleary’s absence.
