NRL 2021: Casualty ward, injuries, Brisbane Broncos, Ben Te’o biceps injury, reaction, updates, news
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Brisbane Broncos forward Ben Te’o faces a nervous wait after suffering a suspected torn biceps muscle in a 35-6 loss to the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Te’o sustained the injury while trying to complete a tackle in the second half and was attended to by the Brisbane trainer shortly after.

At 34 years old and off-contract at the end of the season, a torn biceps muscle would be a cruel blow for Te’o, with NRL Physio reporting a rupture would require surgery and three to four months on the sidelines.

Round 5

Suspected torn biceps for Ben Te’o, video matches concern with load through R biceps as attempt to complete tackle. Trainer did look for tendon tear & left Te’o on, hope that’s been avoided but is common with distal biceps injuries (near elbow). If ruptured: surgery & 3-4 months pic.twitter.com/5GbkZEFbj0

Fox League’s Matt Russell confirmed the news with Te’o during the game, describing “grim” scenes in the Brisbane locker room.

“Ben Te’o was examined by the Brisbane medical staff and I must say there were lots and lots of grim faces,” he said.

“They were hesitant to detail the extent of the injury so I went straight to Ben and Ben confirmed it is a suspected torn biceps muscle. He said ‘I hope not. I hope not’.

“At 34 years of age and off-contract at the end of the season, let’s hope scans this week reveal a much more positive story for Ben Te’o than what is feared on the Broncos bench.”
