Kunchacko and Nayanthara had earlier shared screen space 12 years ago for a song sequence. “After that song in Twenty-20, it’s a coincidence we are acting together again in the year 2020,” says Kunchacko.
Ask him if the project was greenlit because of the pandemic and the actor says, “I had heard the narration a long time ago and had committed to the film. But it has a strong female character and they were in search of someone to play the role. That’s when I suggested Nayanthara’s name. I also had another motive then; I knew it would take a few months for the project to take off because of its content and the task of convincing her to be part of it would take some time. But because of the pandemic some of my projects were pushed to later dates and also Nayanthara loved the script. We decided to go ahead with this now, since she gave her go ahead.”
On whether the makers had to make changes to shoot the film during the pandemic, Kunchacko says, “It’s not a pandemic-oriented project per se but it’s a movie that can be shot in a controlled environment. There are a lot of location shifts but we can film it under restrictions because there aren’t many actors. Most of the movie will be filmed in Ernakulam and with just two days of shoot planned outside Kerala.” The cast, he says, will only have a few noted actors while a child artiste will also play a pivotal role.
A source from the production team tells us that Nayanthara also decided to take a pay cut to be part of the project. Ask Kunchacko if he too had to make such sacrifices and the actor says, “For me, there’s only gain – to work during the pandemic and be part of such a good project, which also has a lot of great talents, including Theevandi director Fellini TP who is involved in its creative side.”
Further on the movie, scripted by debutant Sanjeev, the actor says, “Even though it’s a thriller, we believe this movie delves into a hitherto unexplored terrain. After Anjaam Pathiraa, it’s a movie in this genre that really got me excited.”
